Su festejo fue establecido en el a\u00f1o 2014, por el Congreso, mediante la ley 27.117, en conmemoraci\u00f3n del nacimiento del comandante guaran\u00ed Andr\u00e9s Guacurar\u00ed y Artigas (1778-1821), adoptado como hijo por el caudillo rioplatense Jos\u00e9 Gervasio de Artigas.
